Description
The black tourmaline core is a rare drop in Old School RuneScape. It is called the blackened heart of the Grotesque Guardians. These bosses live on the rooftop of the Slayer Tower. They drop the core at a very rare rate of 1 in 1,000.
The core has one main use. It upgrades Bandos boots into guardian boots. When the core is held near Bandos boots, it is absorbed into them right away. This uses up the core, and the change cannot be undone. Players want the core because guardian boots are a strong upgrade for their gear.
The core is a members-only item. It weighs 1 kg and can be traded and noted, but it cannot be stacked or worn. It is linked to the Morytania region in Leagues.
The core also has a place in game lore. The book The Living Statues says a Bandosian general named Snaarldor used the core to bring the tower's statues to life. This created the Grotesque Guardians and the gargoyles in the Slayer Tower. Skipping the long grind for this drop saves time, since the odds of getting one are low.
