Description
The box trap is a key tool for training the Hunter skill in Old School RuneScape. Players use it to catch ferrets, embertailed jerboas, and chinchompas. Using a box trap requires the right Hunter level for each animal and partial completion of the Eagles' Peak quest.
Once a trap is set, animals nearby can be lured in. If an animal is caught, the box shakes and the player can check it for loot and experience. Higher Hunter levels let players set more traps at once, from one trap at level 1 up to five traps at level 80. An extra trap can be set while hunting black chinchompas in the Wilderness.
Box traps catch some of the most wanted prey in the game. Chinchompas need level 53 Hunter, carnivorous chinchompas need level 63, and black chinchompas need level 73. Adding the right bait raises the catch rate by 3 percent, and smoking a trap with a torch adds 2 percent more.
The box trap is stackable and weighs nothing, so players can carry plenty without filling their bank or slowing down. It is a must-have item for anyone training Hunter or farming chinchompas.
