Description
Mithril ore is a mid-level ore in Old School RuneScape. It is used to make mithril bars, which players smith into mithril gear. Buying the ore saves you long hours at the rocks.
Mining mithril yourself takes level 55 Mining. Each rock gives 80 Mining experience, and the rock takes two minutes to come back. The success rate is low, starting near 11.7% per attempt at level 55. That makes mithril ore slow to gather by hand.
To make a mithril bar, you smelt one mithril ore with four coal at a normal furnace. This gives 30 Smithing experience per bar. At the Blast Furnace, each bar needs only two coal. You can also use the Superheat Item spell, which gives both Magic and Smithing experience.
Mithril ore is a great pick for training Smithing. A big stack lets you smelt bar after bar without stopping to mine. It is also lighter than most other smithing ores, so it weighs less in your pack. Mining a mithril ore is even needed for one of Sherlock's elite clue scroll skill challenges. Stock up on mithril ore and keep your Smithing goals moving.
