The Red cape is a classic wearable cape in Old School RuneScape. It sits in the cape equipment slot and is free-to-play, so any player can wear it. It is not a quest item. The cape is tradeable, equipable, and noteable, and it weighs only 0.453 kg.
The Red cape gives small defence bonuses. It adds +1 to slash defence, +1 to crush defence, and +2 to ranged defence. It gives no attack bonuses. This makes it a simple choice for players who want a splash of colour without any skill requirements.
In the game, this cape can be made by using red dye on another coloured cape. This needs only level 1 Crafting and gives 2.5 Crafting experience. It can also be bought from shops like Thessalia's Fine Clothes in Varrock, Barkers' Haberdashery in Canifis, Shayzien Styles, and Floria's Fashion. Goblins can also drop it.
The Red cape has another handy use. A Beginner-tier Treasure Trail clue asks players to do the Cheer emote at Thessalia's Fine Clothes in Varrock while wearing one. The item was first called just "Cape" when it came out in 2001 and was renamed in 2014.
