Volcanic ash is an item in Old School RuneScape. Players mine it from ash piles around the Fossil Island Volcano. Mining it needs level 22 Mining. It can also drop from some monsters on Fossil Island, like wyverns in the Wyvern Cave.

Volcanic ash is a key item for farming. Its main use is making ultracompost, one of the best composts in the game. Two ash can be used on a bucket of supercompost to make ultracompost. Players can also use 25 ash on a compost bin full of supercompost, or 50 ash on a Big Compost Bin, to turn it all into ultracompost.

The ash has other uses too. One ash mixed with a harralander potion (unf) makes a compost potion. This needs level 22 Herblore. Players who have read the ash covered tome can also use the Fertile Soil spell with two ash in their inventory. This treats a farming patch with ultracompost instead of supercompost.
