Description

Ancient vis is a members-only Archaeology material in RuneScape 3. It is a sticky wax-like substance made from the ancient elements. Players need it to restore many artefacts at an Archaeologist's workbench. These artefacts include spell scrolls, figurines, ceremonial items, books, robes, and staffs.

Getting ancient vis on your own takes time. It requires level 25 Archaeology to excavate. It comes from material caches at the Kharid-et and Slayer Tower dig sites, plus other excavation spots for players between levels 25 and 118. Higher Archaeology levels and better mattocks speed things up, but caches still take 60 seconds to respawn once they run out.

Ancient vis has more uses than artefact work. You need 20 of it to turn on the second Orthen teleportation device at the Observation outpost on Anachronia. It can also be disassembled for Invention parts like Delicate parts, Organic parts, Crafted parts, Enhancing components, and Healthy components, with a special chance for Historic or Classic components.

Ancient vis is tradeable and noteable, and it fits in the material storage container. Buying ancient vis lets you skip the digging and get straight to restoring artefacts and leveling Archaeology.
