Description
Astral runes are catalytic runes in RuneScape 3. They power Lunar spells and a few Ancient Magicks spells. These runes are members-only, tradeable, and stackable. They weigh nothing, so a full stack takes up just one inventory slot.
Players use astral runes for helpful Lunar magic like Moonclan Teleport. Keeping a big stack means you can cast these spells without stopping to craft more runes yourself.
Crafting astral runes takes work. You need level 40 Runecrafting and must finish the Lunar Diplomacy quest to use the astral altar on Lunar Isle. At level 82 Runecrafting, each pure essence gives two runes. Since 2025, players can also craft them through the Abyss, but the Abyss sits in the Wilderness. Buying the runes skips all of that.
Astral runes have other uses too. They can be disassembled for materials like Magic parts, Crafted parts, and Powerful components. Fifty runes are used per disassembly action. The Elite Fremennik achievement called Astronomical also involves these runes, so they matter for high-level goals.
Astral runes are a smart buy for any RS3 player who casts Lunar spells often or wants materials for Invention.
