Description

Death runes are a catalytic rune in RuneScape 3. Mages use them to cast Ancient Magicks. Every rush and burst spell needs death runes, so players who fight with these spells burn through them fast. Death runes are also needed for Teleport Block, a level 85 spell that stops other players from teleporting away. It is the only free-to-play spell that uses death runes.

Death runes are the highest level rune in free-to-play. They are stackable and tradeable, so a big pile takes up just one spot in your inventory or bank.

Making these runes yourself is a lot of work. It takes level 65 Runecrafting and the quest Mourning's End Part II to craft them at the Death altar in the Temple of Light. Buying a stack skips that grind and keeps you casting.

Each rune shows a skull and X, like a skull and crossbones flag. Players who want extra components can also disassemble death runes for Magic parts, Crafted parts, and rare Powerful components. A solid stock of death runes keeps any combat mage ready for training, bossing, or player versus player fights.
