Description
Soapstone is an Archaeology material in RuneScape 3. It is a members-only item. The game describes it as a chalk-like stone useful for carving. You need level 60 Archaeology to obtain it, and a higher level with a better mattock helps you dig it up faster.
Players get soapstone by excavating material caches and hotspots at dig sites around RuneScape. One soapstone cache sits at the Waiko excavation site. Like other Archaeology materials, soapstone can be kept in the material storage container, so it does not fill up your bank.
Soapstone matters because many artefacts need it for restoration. These include the Golem heart, Death mask, Chuluu stone, 'Da Boss Man' sculpture, Horogothgar cooking pot, Curse tablet, Fang of Kayazu, and several funerary urns. Restoring these artefacts at an Archaeologist's workbench gives big chunks of Archaeology experience, so soapstone is a key material for training the skill.
Soapstone can also be disassembled with Invention. It falls under the Ores category and has a special chance to give Historic components or Classic components. If you want to restore artefacts or train Archaeology without long hours of digging, a stock of soapstone saves you time.
