Third Age iron is an Archaeology material in RuneScape 3. It is an early form of iron used to restore old artefacts. Players need level 5 Archaeology to dig it up, so it is one of the first materials new archaeologists work with.

This material is used at an archaeologist's workbench to restore many artefacts. Low level items like the Venator dagger and Legionary gladius need it. High level items like the Tsutsaroth urumi and Kal-i-kra mace need it too. It is also an ingredient in Powerburst of opportunity potions.

Getting Third Age iron on your own takes time. You must excavate material caches or dig sites, and higher Archaeology levels and better mattocks only speed this up a little. Buying it lets you skip the grind and restore artefacts right away.

Third Age iron is tradeable and stacks when noted, so it is easy to hold in large amounts. It can also go in the material storage container. Players who want fast Archaeology training or need materials for many restoration recipes will get good use from a big supply of Third Age iron.
