The Loss of a Loved One
To begin OSRS Secrets of the North, you'll need to speak with the guard outside of the Carnillean Mansion located in East Ardougne. When you do, they will ask for your assistance with solving a crime. Follow the guard up the stairs to find the lifeless corpse of Ceril Carnillean, a clear case of murder. Begin inspecting the room, starting with the victim, and you'll find that Ceril was stabbed in the back with an "unusually thin blade," and a window has been broken from outside. You must then knock on the north wall to find a hidden room; climb the ladder, and you'll find a chest to inspect. Upon doing so, you'll find it has already been broken into and the contents taken.
Head back to the guard and inform him of your findings, at which point he will show you an amulet that was found near the window. It bears the symbol of the Khazard Army and has 'Evelot' engraved on the back. He then suggests that you continue your pursuit of information at the Fight Arena bar. He states he himself is unable to take on the investigation as the Khazard Army operates with approval from the monarchy. So, it's time to get your detective hat on straight and get into the heart of Secrets of the North in OSRS.
Secrets and Sleuthing in Secrets of the North OSRS
Head to the bar in the southwest corner of the Fight Arena and ask the Khazard Barman if he knows of anyone named 'Evelot,' offering him 100 coins as a bribe. He tells you she left recently in a hurry and tells you to go outside to look for her. Start by inspecting the barrels outside of the bar to pick up a trail and begin tracking Evelot. After you've picked up the trail, inspect the northwest boulders at the end of the trail, followed by the northeast bush, the tree stump, yet another set of boulders, and lastly, another bush to the east. The trail will then take you clockwise around the outer edge of the arena to a row boat south of the Tower of Life; here, you will find Evelot standing. When you approach, she will begin a short dialogue, and then you will engage in combat.
Facing off with Evelot
In this Secrets of the North OSRS guide, your next task is to go head-to-head with Evelot. She will attack using Melee, which you can block using Protect from Melee. Don't get too comfortable with this battle, though, as she will use a special attack that will disable protection prayers every few attacks, and your prayer points will be drained. So, to negate these damages or at least undo them, you'll need to be timely, activate prayers when needed, and use restoration potions. You must be cautious during this encounter, as despite this being an early-stage encounter, Evelot can deal up to 34 damage per hit, and her accuracy is pretty good.
She is most weak to Magic attacks, her Melee defense is relatively high, she can not be safespotted, and she has immunity to binds and freeze spells. You also need to be cautious not to go too far from her during the battle, as this will restart the fight.
When you defeat Evelot, she will inform you of her involvement in the murder, citing she was hired to break in and steal a certain scroll from the Carnillean's mansion; however, she was not the killer. She delivered the scroll she was sent for to the Hazeel cultists, but upon delivery, she found out they did not, in fact, hire her to carry out this task. With this newfound information, continue on to the next task in Secrets of the North OSRS.
Unknown Instigators in Secrets of the North OSRS
Head to the Hazeel cult, located by the cave entrance to the Ardougne Sewers, just northwest of the Ardougne Monastery and east of the Clock Tower. Board the raft here and speak with Alomone, who will bring forth Hazeel (if you previously killed Alomone, you can go directly to Clivet and Hazeel). Clivet, being suspicious of the intentions of the mysterious third party, is instructed to summon Khazard to the cult dungeon. Here, the two Mahjarrat discuss the third party still being at large; Hazeel will then advise that you head back to the mansion and ask the family members to find more information.
So, your next step in his Secrets of the North OSRS guide is to head back to the Carnillean family mansion and update the guard on your progress, as it is essentially to speak with him before you question the family. Philipe and Henryeta will not be much use in terms of information, but Claus the Chef, who can be found in the basement, will tell you that a sudden feeling of cold came over the mansion around the time of the murder, and he saw a shadow also.
From here, and using this newfound information, search the shelves to the southwest and reveal a small button that unlocks a wall on the north side of the room by the noticeboard. Inspect this wall, enter the passage behind the wall, and then pick the lock of the chest found inside. To do so, you'll need to move the pins along to certain positions, and they will appear blue when the correct number but the wrong position is used and green when the pin is then in the correct place. If you face too much difficulty, you can use the Mastermind solver to decode the pins.
When you open the chest, you will find a dusty scroll. If you inspect it, you will see a faded symbol. Take this scroll back to Hazeel and Khazard who will be even more so concerned than your last visit, and they have decided to head to the north. Hazeel then informs you that since you are friendly with the ice trolls and he does not want to attract attention, it would be best if you come with them. So, pack your bags and carry on to the next task in OSRS Secrets of the North.
To the North
Go to the north entrance of Weiss, and just outside the central area, you will find Dead Wolf and Big Fish, the shapeshifted manifestations of Hazeel, and General Khazard, who will suggest you speak with Snowflake and My Arm. Ask the duo if they have seen anything unusual recently, and My Arm will tell you there was a cave-in down in the mines recently, and Goat Poo saw a mysterious shadow during his investigation.
With this newfound information, head back to Big Fish, who will then tell you that the area was once called Ghorrock and was a settlement of the Zarosian empire in the second age, and the missing crest half was used to seal the prison located below. After this, you must inform them of what you learned from My Arm and Snowflake, and they will ask you to meet with them in the Salt Mine.
Note: You'll need to be fully prepared for combat before you enter the cave and bring antipoison with you.
Battling Assassins in Secrets of the North OSRS
Go down the stairs within the main building and go through the southern cave entrance that leads to the prison. This will bring about a cutscene depicting you and Khazard coming across an assassin that you had previously met in the Devious Minds quest; he then attacks you. The assassin will be wielding the bow-sword you made for him, attacking using Melee and Ranged. He will also react appropriately against protection prayers, so aim to pray against whatever is your biggest weakness. The General will assist you, but you will be expected to take on the brunt of the battle.
The assassin will possess incredible speed, meaning you're unable to land any attacks by normal means. Any attempts you make to attack will be met with the message, "The assassin easily dodges your attack. You'll need to obscure his vision somehow." So, instead of pursuing a regular battle, you will need to wait until he uses his smoke bombs. Once one lands, lure him into the smoke, obscure his vision, and make your move.
The assassin will also throw some green vials, which will deal up to 30 damage and can leave behind a poison that will start with six damage. So, to negate these, you simply have to jump or run to the next tile over when you see the start of the animation.
Following this OSRS Secrets of the North battle, the assassin will vanish. Khazard will then demand to know how you know this person, and after you explain the events of previous quests, he will tell you to speak with Hazeel while he waits to guard the door to the prison. Hazeel will deduce that the third Mahjarrat is possibly still hiding nearby, with the other half of the crest needed to unseal the prison. While he waits here to guard the dungeon's exit, he asks that you go to investigate the area on his behalf.
Dungeon Whispers in Secrets of the North OSRS
Begin your search by looking into various accessible objects within the area, and you will eventually find yourself with the following items:
- Ancient Map - crate in the easternmost part of the dungeon
- Lever Handle - weapons battle south of the room's center
- Tulia's Letter - southeastern room's chest
- Duke Note - damaged table in the southeast room
This segment of our Secrets of the North OSRS guide starts with you reading Tulia's letter and making notes on the purple letters (S, p, c, d, l). You'll then need to use the ancient map to move from Sentisten, Paddewwa, Carrallanger, Dareeyak, and Lassar. To do so, go left, up, left, and then down. Input these into the lock at the northern gate and hit "Confirm" to open it.
Your next task in Secrets of the North OSRS will be to search the chest inside to get a strange list, then use the handle on the lever mechanism and pull. Go into the room where you battled with the assassin, and then inspect the southwest pillar to uncover a jewel shard and a strange cipher. The strange list can be used to fill in the blank letters from the Dukes note, and then you will be able to match the symbols with the letters in the strange Cipher. When you match the Dukes note correctly and combine this with the symbols from the strange list and Cipher, you will uncover a hidden message:
"BOUND BY BLOOD"
The word BLOOD is the password for the gate in the dungeon's center. Enter the code, and the gate will grant you access.
Beyond the gate, search the damaged table in the south of the room and find a numbers note; do the same to the western crate and get a tinderbox. The numbers note will read "3241," and a small 4:NE will be at the top right. Each number is a representation of the location of a brazier, and certain texts you have obtained have indicators of this.
- Strange Cipher - 1:SW
- Ancient Map - 2: SE
- Strange List - 3: NW
With the use of the numbers note, you must light the braziers in the following order:
- Northwest
- Southeast
- Northeast
- Southwest
This will unlock the western chest; search it and receive a settlement's note and a second jewel shard. Combine the two shards you have acquired, and you will receive the ancient jewel. You'll need this shortly, so ensure you don't misplace it. Next, in Secrets of the North OSRS, read the settlements note, which depicts an arrangement of old Zarosian settlements. Then, take the ancient map and connect each settlement as instructed in the settlements note.
Example: Connect Kharid-et Kharyll-Senntisten on the ancient map, and you will receive the shape of the number seven.
Continue to do the same with the rest of the settlements using the note, and you should get the number "7402"; this is the password for the north chest. Enter the code into the chest lock and open it to obtain an icy chest. You must then combine the ancient jewel with the icy chest to open it, and you will receive an icy key. Take this key and unlock the gate southwest of the room's center. Beyond this gate, you will see a crevice; it's highly recommended that you resupply and re-gear in preparation for a Magic and Ranged battle before entering. Once you're ready, enter.
A Strange Creature in Secrets of the North OSRS
When you enter the crevice, a Strange Creature will appear and begin attacking you. This Creature is considered to be one of OSRS's more challenging battles, but if you get to grips with the mechanics, you shouldn't have too many issues. With a little practice, 85+ Combat, blessed dragonhide armor, and enchanted onyx jewelry, you should find the battle more than reasonable. To give you a little extra edge, you should consider taking stamina protons and some prayer restores.
OSRS Secrets of the North Boss Fight Overview
Before we dive straight into the action, let's break down what we know about this OSRS Secrets of the North Boss to give you the best chance of success. Firstly, this Creature has 550 hitpoints and attacks using Melee and Ranged. Another important thing to consider with this battle is the fact your opponent will alternate between three forms after taking specific amounts of damage. Below, we have broken down all you need to know about these forms; check it out:
Brown Strange Creature
- Attacks using: Melee
- Creature max hit: 24
- Pray against: Melee
- Player Combat style: Magic/Ranged
Stay back when possible, but be ready to pray Protect from Melee if you get within the creature's attack range. Several Stamina potions will be needed for this battle, so make sure you're geared up. Magic gear is a good choice, as in this stage of the fight, the Strange Creature will have reduced Magic defense.
If using both of the recommended styles, a gear change may be worth it, and ice spells can be a somewhat decent method of attack, but note that they will be at only 75% power as opposed to normal encounters.
Note: Despite the Creature having reduced Magic defense in this phase, it will still possess a Magic level of 150, meaning splashes will be frequent. If you don't have max gear or high Magic, stay Ranged, and we recommend Ruby Bolts (e) to lower the Strange Creature's health and get this phase over with.
Green Strange Creature
- Attacks using: Magic/Ranged
- Creature max hit: 33
- Pray against: Melee
- Player Combat style: Magic/Ranged
For this next phase in Secrets of the North OSRS boss battle, use Ranged and have your prayer book open, ready to use Protect from Magic when necessary. You won't need to run around too much in this phase, and with the use of the correct protection prayer, you can avoid all damage.
Teal Strange Creature
- Attacks using: Magic/Ranged
- Creature max hit: 38
- Pray against: Ranged
- Player Combat style: Ranged
In Secrets of the North OSRS, when the Strange Creature teleports to the center of the room, run and hide behind the nearby spikes to steer clear of its shockwave. Follow the same attack strategy as the green phase and continue to pray against Magic wherever needed. When the shield appears, switch to Smite if possible during attacks, as while the shield will slowly disappear on its own, Smite hurries along the process. If using a crossbow, use the sapphire bolts (e) in an attempt to drain the Creature's prayer shield.
This form will only appear once when the Strange Creature is at 20%; any damage you receive will partially heal the Creature once the shield is down.
Green Strange Creature (Post Shield)
- Attack using: Magic/Ranged
- Creature max hit: 38
- Pray against: Ranged
- Player Combat style: Ranged
For the last alternate of the Strange Creature in Secrets of the North, OSRS boss fight, attack using Ranged, keep your prayer book open, and keep Protect from Magic ready.

The Battle is Done…But the Mystery Continues
Following the battle in OSRS Secrets of the North, the Strange Creature will transform into Jhallan, a Mahjarrat. He sees you and will attempt to question you, but the assassin will teleport him away before he gets a chance, then disappear himself. Head to Hazeel and Khazard, and just as you retell the story of what happened, the strange barrier will melt away, unsealing the prison. This causes them to realize that the assassin is able to enter the Shadow Realm. Khazard then leaves a regiment of troops to guard the area while Hazeel offers to teleport you back to East Ardougne, accept the offer, and report back to the guard to complete the quest.
