Description

Barley malt is a members-only item in Old School RuneScape. It is made by cooking barley on a range. This gives no Cooking experience. Barley malt is tradeable and noteable, but it cannot be equipped or stacked.

Barley malt is a key ingredient in brewing, which is part of the Cooking skill. Every ale needs it. To brew an ale, a player adds two buckets of water to a fermenting vat, then two barley malt, then the main ingredient, and then ale yeast. Brewing vats are found in Keldagrim and Port Phasmatys.

Barley malt is also useful for Farming. A player can pay a farmer six barley malt to protect jute seeds growing in a hops patch. This keeps the crop safe from disease.

Two barley malt are needed in the Forgettable Tale quest to brew Kelda stout. Buying barley malt saves time, since making it means growing or buying barley and cooking each one on a range for no experience. With barley malt in the bank, a player is ready to brew ales, pay for jute protection, or finish quest steps right away.
