Description
The Bolt of cotton is a members-only crafting item in Old School RuneScape. Players use it to build sails for their boats and to make the gem tote. It is tradeable and noteable, and it weighs 1 kg.
Players can make a bolt of cotton at a loom with 2 cotton yarn. This needs level 73 Crafting and gives 132 Crafting experience. Looms can be found at the South Falador Farm, at the Museum Camp on Fossil Island, and near the fairy ring on Aldarin.
Bolts of cotton are needed for many useful items. The gem tote takes 1 bolt of cotton, 1 silk, and a gem satchel at level 81 Crafting. Boat sails take even more. The ironwood mast and cotton sails need 5 bolts for a raft or skiff, or 10 for a sloop, at level 83 Crafting. The rosewood mast and cotton sails need the same number of bolts at level 94 Crafting.
Buying bolts of cotton saves time spent spinning yarn and weaving at a loom. This lets players get straight to building sails and leveling their Crafting skill.
