Description
The Nihil shard is an ancient magical shard in Old School RuneScape. Monsters in the Ancient Prison drop it. Nex, the level 1001 boss, drops the most shards at once, often 80 or more per drop. Spiritual mages, spiritual rangers, spiritual warriors, and blood reavers aligned with Zaros also drop them in smaller amounts.
Nihil shards have two main uses. First, you need 250 shards to create a Zaryte crossbow, one of the strongest ranged weapons in the game. Second, you can grind a shard with a pestle and mortar to make nihil dust. At level 85 Herblore, you can mix that dust with an unfinished dwarf weed potion to make an ancient brew.
The shard is tradeable and stackable, so it takes up only one inventory slot no matter how many you hold. It weighs nothing and cannot be equipped or noted. Nihil shards came to the game with the Nex update and became obtainable on 5 January 2022. Buying shards is a fast way to work toward a Zaryte crossbow or stock up for ancient brews without long boss grinds.
