Description

Ruby bolts (e) are adamant bolts tipped with ruby and enchanted with magic. You need level 46 Ranged to use them. They have a ranged strength bonus of +103.

These bolts have a special effect called Blood Forfeit. When it triggers, the bolt hits the target for 20% of its current Hitpoints, with a cap of 100 damage. The player loses 10% of their own current Hitpoints as a cost. The effect can trigger even if the bolt would have missed.

The effect has a 6% chance to trigger against monsters and an 11% chance in PvP. Finishing the Hard Kandarin Diary raises these to 6.6% and 12.1%. This boost is always active.

Ruby bolts (e) shine against enemies with lots of Hitpoints, like the bosses Vorkath and Nex. They pair well with the Zaryte crossbow. Its special attack makes the bolt effect a sure thing and boosts it by 10%, for a max hit of up to 110.

Since the effect scales with the enemy's current health, many players switch to diamond or onyx bolts once a boss gets low. The effect also gives full Ranged experience for its damage.
