Description
Rune essence is a raw material in Old School RuneScape. Players use it with the Runecraft skill to make low-level runes. It can be crafted into air, mind, water, earth, fire, and body runes at their altars. It cannot be made into higher runes like nature or law runes. Those need pure essence instead.
Rune essence does not stack in the inventory. Each piece takes one spot, so having a big supply saved up helps a lot when training Runecraft.
The essence itself comes from the rune essence mine, which opens after the Rune Mysteries quest. Mining it needs level 1 Mining and a pickaxe, and it gives 5 Mining experience per essence. Buying it skips the trips to the mine and the slow work of gathering it one piece at a time.
Rune essence is also needed for the Priest in Peril quest, which asks for 50 essence. It works well for players who want fast Runecraft experience on early levels. Crafting air runes needs only level 1 Runecraft, and body runes need level 20. With a stock of rune essence ready, training the skill is simple and quick.
