This item is the key step for making Prayer potions. At level 38 Herblore, add snape grass to the unfinished potion to make a Prayer potion and earn 87.5 experience. At level 42, add snape grass and caviar to make a Prayer mix and earn 116 experience. It is also used in the Eadgar's Ruse quest, where it is mixed with ground thistle to make a troll potion.
