Description
The aether catalyst is a stackable, tradeable item in Old School RuneScape. It is a members-only item used to craft aether runes, which are combination runes that count as both a cosmic rune and a soul rune.
Crafting aether runes needs level 90 Runecraft. Since the true Soul Altar is not open to players, runes are made at the Cosmic Altar using soul runes, essence, and the Magic Imbue spell. Each aether rune crafted uses one aether catalyst. This is true even when using Raiments of the Eye or scarred extracts to boost the rune yield. Each craft gives 20 XP per rune, or 30 XP with Daeyalt essence.
Aether catalysts drop from Yama, The Leviathan, the Abyssal Sire, and the Doom of Mokhaiotl. A Yama Contract always gives 2,000 of them.
Players want aether runes because one rune covers spells that need a cosmic rune, a soul rune, or both. This lets a divine rune pouch hold all the runes needed for Death Charge, Dark Demonbane, and thrall spells. Aether catalysts weigh nothing, so a full stack is easy to carry.
