The Black sq shield is a medium square shield in Old School RuneScape. It is made of black metal. You need level 10 Defence to wear it. It works for both free players and members.
This shield gives solid defence for its level. It blocks better than a steel kiteshield but not as well as a black kiteshield. Its defence bonuses are +15 Stab, +16 Slash, +14 Crush, and +15 Ranged. It has a -6 Magic attack bonus, so it is not a good pick for magic combat. Like all black armour, it cannot be made with the Smithing skill.
The shield is tradeable, equipable, and noteable. It weighs 3.628 kg. It first came out on 8 December 2001. In April 2021, its ranged attack bonus was raised from -2 to 0, so it no longer lowers your ranged attack.
