Description

Raw herring is a fish in Old School RuneScape. Players catch it with a fishing rod and fishing bait at sea fishing spots. It needs level 10 Fishing to catch and gives 30 Fishing experience. River spots do not give raw herring. It is a free-to-play item, so any account can use it.

Raw herring can be cooked into herring at level 5 Cooking. Cooking it gives 50 Cooking experience, and the cooked fish heals 5 hits. This makes it a good low level food and a simple way to train Cooking early in the game.

The fish can be caught at many spots by the sea. These include Catherby, Draynor Village, Al Kharid, Port Sarim, Karamja, and the Lumbridge Swamp east coast. Some monsters also drop it, such as Dagannoths and Mogres.

Raw herring is tradeable and can be turned into a bank note, but it does not stack in the inventory. Charlie the Tramp may ask for one during a beginner clue scroll step, so it is handy to keep for clue hunting. It is a cheap, useful item for new players and skillers alike.
