Description
The fishing rod is a basic tool in Old School RuneScape. It is used with the Fishing skill to catch fish at bait fishing spots. Players need at least level 5 Fishing to use it. The rod needs fishing bait for most catches, but anglerfish need sandworms instead.
Free-to-play players can catch raw sardines at level 5, raw herring at level 10, and raw pike at level 25. Members can catch more with it, like raw slimy eels at level 28, raw cave eels at level 38, raw anglerfish at level 82, and sacred eels at level 87. Different fish appear at sea spots than at river spots.
The fishing rod is also used in quests. In Fishing Contest, players use it with red vine worms to catch a raw giant carp. In Shadows of Custodia, it is used to get a wet fabric scrap from a plank in a river. Adding blamish oil turns it into an oily fishing rod, which can catch a raw lava eel.
The fishing rod is tradeable and noteable but not stackable. It weighs 1.36 kg. It is a simple item that every fisher needs to train the skill.
