The Ancient Staff is a one-handed magic weapon in Old School RuneScape. It can autocast Ancient Magicks and standard spells. This makes it a top pick for players who want to use spells like Ice Barrage from the Ancient spellbook.
You need 50 Magic and 50 Attack to wield it. You must also finish the Desert Treasure I quest. The staff attacks every 2.4 seconds. It gives +15 Magic attack, +40 crush attack, and +50 strength. It has a -1 Prayer bonus. In melee, it hits about as well as a rune scimitar, but the granite hammer beats it if you have 50 Strength.
The staff is also the base item for the ancient sceptre. Bring the staff and an ancient icon to Eblis to upgrade it. This upgrade cannot be undone, and the sceptre cannot be traded.
Ironmen should keep this staff safe. It is needed for a master clue step that requires a negative Prayer bonus, and it is hard to replace. Whether you cast Ancient Magicks or work on clue scrolls, the Ancient Staff is a useful weapon to own.
