Steel nails are a handy item in Old School RuneScape. Players make them by using a steel bar on an anvil with a hammer. This needs level 34 Smithing. Each bar gives 15 steel nails and 37.5 Smithing experience. They are the only nails free-to-play players can make.

Steel nails are needed in many quests. Dragon Slayer I uses 90 nails to repair a hole. Horror from the Deep needs 60, In Search of the Myreque needs 225, and Cold War needs 10. Sleeping Giants needs 10 nails of any type.

Members can use steel nails to build some wooden furniture in Construction. With level 56 Construction, five nails and two planks can repair broken bridges in the Hallowed Sepulchre for 150 experience. With level 33 Fletching, players can add them to flighted ogre arrows to make steel brutal arrows for 5.1 experience each. With level 62 Crafting, fifteen nails plus a maple shield and two green dragon leather pieces make a green d'hide shield for 124 experience.
