The black salamander is the strongest salamander in RuneScape 3. It is a two-handed ranged weapon that needs level 70 Ranged to wield. It is tier 70, with ability damage of 892.5 to 1008 and accuracy of 1486. Its attack range is 7.

This weapon is a cheaper option than Karil's crossbow. It has the same damage and accuracy, but a shorter attack range. It also never degrades, so there are no repair costs. It works well when slaying monsters that are weak to bolts.

The black salamander uses harralander tar as ammunition. The tar cannot be picked back up, even with one of Ava's devices, but abilities use very little of it.

Players also use black salamanders for skilling. They are a secondary ingredient in camouflage potions. They are popular to augment and disassemble for Invention experience because they are easy to get compared to other weapons of the same strength. Disassembly gives 12 materials, which can include Connector parts, Crafted parts, Tensile parts, Stunning components, and Dextrous components.

In the game, black salamanders are caught with level 67 Hunter in the Wilderness. Each catch gives 517 Hunter XP.
