This crossbow is useful for more than combat. You need one to build the hidey-hole near the shortcut from Catherby to Taverley. You also need one for the hidey-hole in Yanille Bank.

Players can make an iron crossbow with level 39 Fletching by adding a crossbow string to an unstrung iron crossbow. This gives 22 Fletching experience. It can also be disassembled for Invention.
