Description

Hard leather is a crafting material in Old School RuneScape. It is made by taking cowhides to a tanner. Players with level 78 Magic can also use the lunar spell Tan Leather, which tans up to 5 cowhides at once. It can also drop as rare loot from baby implings.

Hard leather is used to train Crafting. With a needle and thread, one piece makes a hardleather body at level 28 Crafting for 35 experience. Members with level 41 Crafting can use a hammer and 15 bronze nails to attach two hard leathers onto an oak shield. This makes a hard leather shield and gives 70 experience. The shield needs level 20 Ranged and 10 Defence to wear.

One piece of hard leather is also needed for the Animal Magnetism quest, so it is a handy item to keep on hand.

Hard leather is not members only, so all players can use it. It is tradeable on the Grand Exchange with a buy limit of 13,000 per 4 hours. It is not equipable and not stackable, and each piece weighs 3.175 kg. Buying it in bulk is a fast way to skip tanning and train Crafting.
