Description
The iron bar is a bar of refined iron in Old School RuneScape. Players make it with the Smithing skill at level 15 by using iron ore on a furnace. Each smelt gives 12.5 Smithing experience. Iron ore has a 50% chance to be too impure and fail, but a ring of forging, the Superheat Item spell, or the Blast Furnace gives a 100% success rate.
Iron bars are great for Smithing training. Use one on an anvil with a hammer to make iron weapons and armour. Each bar used gives 25 experience. An iron platebody gives the most at 125 experience and takes five bars. Players can also smith daggers, axes, swords, shields, helmets, and more.
These bars matter for quests too. A total of 18 iron bars are needed across quests like Animal Magnetism, Swan Song, The Knight's Sword, and Throne of Miscellania.
The iron bar is a free-to-play item. It is tradeable and noteable, so it is easy to move in bulk. It is not stackable or equipable. Buying iron bars lets players skip the slow smelting grind and get right to smithing experience or quest progress.
