Description

Barley is a grain in RuneScape 3. Players grow it from barley seeds in a hops patch. It only needs level 3 Farming, so new players can grow it too. It is free-to-play with no quest needed.

Barley is best known for brewing. It cooks into barley malt on a range, and barley malt is used to brew many ales. Barley malt is also needed for the Forgettable Tale of a Drunken Dwarf quest, and six malts can pay a farmer to watch jute. Barley is also the top bait for deadfalling Prickly Kebbits with the Hunter skill.

Growing barley is fast. Four seeds fill one hops patch, and the plant grows in 40 minutes. A full plant can give up to seven barley, and each one picked gives 9.5 Farming experience. A nearby gardener will protect the crop for three buckets of compost. Hops patches sit north of Lumbridge farm, north of McGrubor's Wood, in Yanille, and on Entrana.

Barley can also be used to make compost, flowery mush, and variety mush. It is light too, at only 0.028 kg, so it is easy to carry in bulk.
