The RS3 shortbow (unstrung) is a free-to-play Fletching item in RuneScape 3. Players cut it from logs at level 1 Fletching, which gives 5 experience. Add a bowstring to turn it into a shortbow and get 5 more experience. That makes 10 experience total for one bow.

Unstrung shortbows are a popular pick for fast, low-level Fletching training. Stringing an inventory of 14 bows takes about 15 seconds. With banking, players can string around 2,520 bows an hour for roughly 12,600 Fletching experience per hour.

Once strung, the shortbow becomes a Tier 5 Ranged weapon with no combat requirements. It has an attack range of 7 spaces, 150 accuracy, and uses arrows as ammo. Skill pures like shortbows because a player with no arrows equipped cannot deal damage by accident and gain unwanted combat experience.
