Steel bolts are crossbow ammo in RuneScape 3. They are the fourth bolt type, coming after iron bolts. You need level 20 Ranged to use them. They are tier 20 ammo with 192 ability damage. The bolts are stackable and weigh nothing, so you can carry thousands in one inventory slot. Both free players and members can use them.

Steel bolts work well for training Ranged at low and mid levels. They are a solid pick for fighting monsters while you level up. You can also upgrade them. With level 48 Fletching, you can attach topaz bolt tips to make topaz bolts.

Players who train Fletching can make these bolts too. It takes level 46 Fletching to add feathers to unfinished steel bolts. Each set of 10 bolts gives 35 Fletching experience. Buying finished bolts skips that work and saves time.
