Description

Leaping trout is a fish in Old School RuneScape. Catching one needs level 48 Fishing, 15 Strength, and 15 Agility. Each catch gives 50 Fishing experience, 5 Strength experience, and 5 Agility experience. Because it trains three skills at once, leaping trout is a popular way to level up Fishing.

Players catch leaping trout at Otto's Grotto or Mount Quidamortem. It takes a barbarian rod and bait like fishing bait, feathers, roe, or fish offcuts. You must start the Barbarian Training miniquest first.

Leaping trout cannot be cooked. Instead, you can gut it with a knife. This gives a chance to get roe and fish offcuts. Getting roe rewards 10 Cooking experience and a further chance at fish offcuts too. Both roe and offcuts work as bait, so cutting your fish can save feathers. The chance to get roe grows with your Cooking level, from 1 in 150 at level 1 up to 66 percent at level 99.

The fish weighs 0.5 kg. Its examine text reads "A sad-looking trout." Leaping salmon and leaping sturgeon can be caught the same way at higher levels.
