Carapace is a Crafting material in RuneScape 3. It is used to make carapace armour, a set of ranged armour for players with 30 Defence. The item is tradeable and stackable, so it is easy to store in your bank.
With a needle and thread, carapace can be crafted into boots, gloves, a helm, legs, a shield, and a torso. Crafting levels range from 30 for gloves to 36 for the shield. A full set takes 9 carapace and 5 thread. Carapace is also a material for masterwork elasticated leather at level 110 Crafting.
Carapace armour can be worn by free-to-play players. It gives better stats than studded leather armour but less than green dragonhide armour. The full set with the shield has a total armour value of 427.
In the game, carapace drops from cockroach soldiers, cockroach workers, and cockroach drones in the Stronghold of Player Safety. It also drops from Profane Scabarites in the Scabarite Cavern. Buying carapace saves you from farming these monsters yourself. It is a smart pick for players who want fast Crafting XP or a cheap set of ranged armour.
