Description

Fishing bait is a basic item in RuneScape 3. Players use it with a fishing rod at any fishing spot that has the Bait option. It is stackable, weighs nothing, and is tradeable, so it is easy to carry in large amounts.

Bait works for many fish as your Fishing level grows. At level 5 you can catch sardine. At level 10 you can catch herring, and at level 25 you can catch pike. With a Barbarian rod, bait can catch leaping trout at 48, leaping salmon at 58, and leaping sturgeon at 70. At level 66, after starting the Necromancy! quest, you can catch ghostly sole in the City of Um. At level 85 you can catch cavefish. Bait can also catch lava eel during the Heroes' Quest.

Each catch uses one piece of bait, unless you have claimed the prawnbroker reward in your player-owned house. Bait has other uses too. It feeds God birds and Ravens during their second and third growth stages. You can grind it with a pestle and mortar to make ground fishing bait, which feeds most baby pet birds. It is also used in the quests Let Them Eat Pie and Recipe for Disaster.
