Description
The fishing rod is a basic tool used to catch fish with the Fishing skill in RuneScape 3. It is tradeable and weighs 1.36 kg. It cannot be worn, but it can be added to the tool belt. To catch most fish, players also need fishing bait in their backpack. Bait is not needed once the baitless fishing prawn perk is unlocked from the Prawnbroker in the Player-owned house.
With a fishing rod, players can catch many kinds of fish. Low levels can catch raw minnow, raw sardine, and raw herring. Higher levels unlock raw catfish, raw sea turtle, raw rocktail, crystal urchins, raw wobbegong, and raw sailfish at level 97.
The rod can also be used to make other items. It can be turned into a Fishing rod-o-matic at an Inventor's workbench with level 22 Invention. It can be combined with blamish oil to make an oily fishing rod. It can also become a 'fishvention' rod in the Back to the Freezer quest.
On death, the fishing rod is always kept outside a dangerous area. It can be disassembled for Simple parts or, rarely, Variable components.
