Description
The RS3 uncut opal is a semi-precious gem used to train Crafting in RuneScape 3. A player with level 1 Crafting can cut it with a chisel. A successful cut gives an opal and 15 Crafting experience. The gem can crush during cutting, which gives 3.8 experience instead. The chance to crush the gem drops as Crafting level goes up and stops at level 50.
Cut opals have more uses. In Fletching, a chisel turns one cut opal into 12 opal bolt tips for 2 experience, with no risk of crushing. These tips go on bronze bolts to make opal bolts, which can be enchanted into opal bolts (e). Opals can also be crafted into opal jewellery, which can be enchanted for special abilities.
Uncut opals come from mining common gem rocks, opening sedimentary and igneous geodes, panning at the Varrock Dig Site, or pickpocketing H.A.M. members. One is also needed during The Dig Site quest, where an NPC asks for it in exchange for answers.
The item is tradeable and noteable. It can be disassembled in the Gems category for materials like precious components, faceted components, and clear parts.
