Description
The opal is the lowest level semi-precious gem in RuneScape 3. Players make it by cutting an uncut opal with a chisel at level 1 Crafting. A successful cut gives 15 Crafting experience. The gem is tradeable, noteable, and light to carry.
Opals have many uses. They can be crafted into opal jewellery like rings, necklaces, bracelets, and amulets. This jewellery can be enchanted to gain special abilities. For example, the opal ring becomes the Ring of metamorphosis, which gives a chance for double experience when catching butterflies barehanded.
Opals also help with Fletching. Cutting an opal with a chisel makes 12 opal bolt tips. These tips go on bronze bolts to make opal bolts, which can be enchanted for a Lucky Lightning effect that adds 10% damage.
Players can also trade opals to Safta Doc along with other items to get an opal machete. Cut opals can be sold to Gabooty's Tai Bwo Wannai Cooperative for trading sticks. Opals can be disassembled too, giving materials from the Gems category such as Clear parts, Precious components, and Faceted components. This makes the opal a handy gem for many skills.
