Description

Leather, also called soft leather, is a key material in the RuneScape 3 Crafting skill. It is made by giving one cowhide to a tanner. Tanners can be found in Al Kharid, Varrock, Taverley, Canifis, Prifddinas, the Ranging Guild, and the Crafting Guild. Members can also use the Make Leather spell at level 83 Magic to tan 28 cowhides at once.

With a needle, leather can be turned into soft leather armour. This includes the leather body, boots, chaps, cowl, gloves, shield, and vambraces. Each piece needs just one leather. Most pieces can be made at level 1 Crafting, so this is one of the main ways free-to-play players train early Crafting levels. Leather is also used to make Masterwork elasticated leather at level 110 and Penguin bongos at level 30.

Soft leather armour is basic Ranged gear with no requirements to wear. Steel studs can be added to some pieces to make studded leather armour. Leather is tradeable and noteable, so it is easy to store and move in bulk. A good stock of leather means fast and simple Crafting training without long trips to gather cowhides.
