Soda ash is a members-only item in Old School RuneScape. It is a key ingredient for making glass with the Crafting skill. When you smelt soda ash with a bucket of sand in a furnace, you get molten glass. The Lunar spell Superglass Make does the same job with a better yield, giving 1.3 molten glass per soda ash and bucket of sand instead of 1.0.

Players make soda ash by cooking seaweed, giant seaweed, swamp weed, or edible seaweed on a range, oven, or fire. Giant seaweed can give six soda ash at once, but it can fail at lower Cooking levels. Soda ash is also sold at charter ships in many ports, dropped by Killerwatts and Rock Lobsters, and found in ash piles.

Buying soda ash saves time for anyone training Crafting. It skips the slow steps of gathering and cooking seaweed. This makes it easy to craft molten glass in bulk for items like glassblowing products. Soda ash is tradeable and noteable, and it weighs only 0.056 kg, so it is simple to stock up and store.
