Swamp tar is a members item in RuneScape 3. It is a thick, foul smelling substance found in Lumbridge Swamp and Mort Myre Swamp. It is tradeable, stackable, and weighs nothing, so it is easy to carry in large amounts.

Swamp tar has many uses. Mix it with flour and heat it on a fire or range to make swamp paste. Swamp paste is used in the Shades of Mort'ton and Fishing Trawler minigames and in several quests. You can also distill swamp tar into lamp oil, which fuels oil lamps, oil lanterns, and bullseye lanterns.

Ranged players use swamp tar to make herb tar. Combine it with guam, marrentill, tarromin, or harralander herbs to make ammo for salamanders. Guam tar needs level 19 Herblore, marrentill tar needs 31, tarromin tar needs 39, and harralander tar needs 44. Each one gives Herblore experience when made.

Swamp tar is also needed in quests like Eagles' Peak, Cold War, Horror from the Deep, Troll Romance, and Sea Slug. With so many uses in skilling, quests, and combat, swamp tar is a handy item for any RS3 member to keep in stock.
