Volcanic ash is a type of soil in RuneScape 3. Players find it by excavating at the Daemonheim Dig Site, which needs level 73 Archaeology, or at the Orthen Dig Site, which needs level 90 Archaeology.
The main use for volcanic ash is screening. At level 73 Archaeology, players can screen it at the screening station at the Archaeology Campus. Screening can give useful materials like Dragon metal, Goldrune, Orgone, and Orthenglass. Higher levels unlock more materials, such as Compass rose at 77, Carbon black and Felt at 78, and Soapstone at 87. There is also a small chance to get an artefact. A higher Archaeology level means a better success rate, and the master archaeologist's outfit helps too.
Volcanic ash has a use in Herblore as well. At level 78 Herblore, players can add it to an Avantoe potion (unfinished) to make an Archaeology potion (3).
